Frequently Asked Questions

Word Bucket – How it works

Why do I have 50 words in my Word Bucket at the start?

When you download Word Bucket for the first time you get 50 words for you to practise with and start moving from White, to Orange and then to Green.

How do I add words to my Bucket?

There are two main ways to add words to Word Bucket.

The first way is using the search function at the top of the Homescreen. When you search for a word here you’ll get a list of all the translations available. You can then choose to save any or all of these words by tapping on the Bucket with the + symbol.

The second way to add words is to use the Add translation option that you’ll see at the bottom of the screen if you haven’t been given any search results.

How do I remove words from my Bucket?

Very easily. Just tap on the Bucket with the X beside the word you want to delete.

How many words can I add?

If you’ve bought or upgraded Word Bucket you can save as many words as your phone will hold… So lots!! If you’re still using the free version you can add 25 words before you need to upgrade.

Can I compete and share with my friends?

Yes of course! You can share any word in your Bucket with friends by tapping the share icon beside the word.

And additionally, if you visit your History page (in Settings on Android and More on iPhone) you’ll then find your own personal stats which you can compare against your friends.

Can I buy more words?

Right now there’s no way to buy more words for your Word Bucket. If you’d like to see this in a future version let us know at support@wordbucket.com.

You can of course add words through searching and adding your translations.

Games and Tests

How do I move the words between the colours?

It’s easy. You just have to do a test. All new words you save start in White (new words), then when you’ve got them correct in the White tests they go to Orange (words you’re learning) and then finally to Green (words you’ve learned).

If you get a word wrong at any stage it goes to Red to start again, so be careful.

How do I select a test?

All you have to do is press the Learn button at the bottom of your screen and then select the colour of the test you want.

Do I have to spell the word 100% correctly in the Orange test?

Oh yes you do! But not to worry, you can use the hints to help you. There are 2 hints per word.

Purchasing and Upgrades

Is Word Bucket free?

Word Bucket is free to download on iOS and Android. In the free version you’ll be able to use many of Word Bucket’s core features for free but you will also have the option to upgrade or buy new features like more words, new games and other useful learning tools.

How can I upgrade?

Don’t worry, it’s very easy to upgrade from the free version. You can find the Upgrade option in Settings on Android and More on iPhone and when you click on the Green Bucket test.

My upgrade didn’t work!

We’re sorry! That’s very strange. Please contact us at support@wordbucket.com and we will help you get it working right away.

Languages and settings

Can I learn multiple languages?

Right now you set your native language and the language you’re learning when you download Word Bucket and cannot change them.

Stay tuned though as we hope to add this as a new feature in later versions.

What happens if I select the wrong languages by mistake in the login screen?

Don’t worry as there’s a way around this. However, be careful before following the options below as all your current Word Bucket data (words & settings) will be deleted.

If you’re an Android phone or tablet user, you need to close the app, then go to Settings and then Application manager. There select Word Bucket and tap the Clear Data button and confirm. Finally, relaunch the app and you’ll be able to select the correct languages.

If you’re a iPhone user you have to delete the application from your phone, clear all saved Word Bucket data in iCloud (see below) and download it from the App Store.

Note: To delete your Word Bucket data from iCloud go into Settings -> iCloud -> Storage & Backup -> Manage Storage. There choose Word Bucket, tap on the edit and finally Delete All.

If I’m not a native English speaker I can only choose to learn English. Why is this?

Currently Word Bucket only supports English native speakers learning a number of foreign languages and learners of English.

We hope to release lots of new language sets in future versions so make sure you follow us on Facebook  and Twitter for more updates.

How can I change the avatar?

If you’re an Android user tap on the photo and you’ll be able to select a new one from your photos.

For iPhones, go to Settings and then tap the image to choose another image.

None of these are my questions!
